You love enjoying your pool throughout the heat of summer. However, you may worry that your floors are paying the price for your indulgence. Yes, pool water can damage your floors. If you have carpet, the chlorine in the water can bleach the carpet over time, causing it to fade.
If you have hardwood or laminate floors, water can damage these as well. Over time, the water itself can cause the floors to buckle, fade, or begin to break down. The finish on laminate flooring can wear off with frequent exposure to pool water.

1. Have a Patio Area to Dry Off
The first step is to have an area where everyone dries off. In most cases, your patio is the ideal location. Make sure the area is convenient and comfortable.
Make sure that everyone knows this is where they should dry off. Don’t allow anyone to step inside the house until they are dry.
Remember, the easier you make the process, the more likely everyone is to do it. Consider adding a few chairs to make the area more comfortable. You may also want to add a mat for your feet so you have a comfortable place to stand.
2. Place an Outdoor Towel Rack
An outdoor towel rack will make drying off much easier. If the area is covered by rain, you can keep a few fresh towels on the towel rack. When you get out of the pool, grab a towel and dry off with it. Once you are done, you can place the towel back on the rack to dry, or take it inside to be laundered.
3. Use a Floor Mat Inside
You’ll also want to use a floor mat. It’s best to place a floor mat right inside your door that leads to the pool. If someone steps in without drying off first, this mat will catch most of the water.
No matter how diligent you are, someone will forget to dry themselves before going inside. This is particularly true for children, but even adults can forget from time to time.
Manage Accidents Quickly
At some point, someone will go inside and soak your floor. It’s simply inevitable. Be sure that you dry up any water quickly when this happens. You can also place a clear protective mat in the area in front of your door.
