While mesh covers do allow water through, they’ll also capture most of the larger debris that falls into the pool so that you can easily lift your mesh net and clear it out. A good mesh net should fit tightly across the top of the pool so you can just blow these leaves off. If you’re looking for something more solid that does the same job and won’t allow finer particles to pass through the surface, you can go with a leaf pool cover instead.
Take Advantage of Robotic Pool Cleaners and Skimmers
Modern technology can be a blessing when it comes to keeping your pool clean and tidy. Two products you should have in your pool are robotic pool cleaners and manual or robotic skimmers. Robotic pool cleaners move around the bottom of your pool to collect debris, preventing the buildup and circulation of leaves, dirt, and beyond. Of course, not everything settles on the bottom. To get the surface matter, having either electronic skimmers that sit on the top and collect debris or manual ones that clip to the side can help you get to leaves quickly before they become an issue.
Consider Landscaping to Tackle the Problem Early
All of the methods above are great strategies to help you manage the inevitable flurry of leaves and dirt that will come your way around fall and winter. However, that doesn’t mean you’re powerless to reduce the amount of debris that you deal with every year. Take time to consider how you can leverage landscaping to more effectively tackle the leaf problem before they make their way to your pool. If you have trees nearby, trim them before the leaves start falling so that you have considerably less to try to keep out of your pool. The better you strategize, the less you’ll have to clean.
