When Your Pool Needs More Than Maintenance
Every pool reaches a point where routine maintenance isn't enough. The plaster is rough and stained. The tile is cracked or dated. The equipment is aging and inefficient. The coping is lifting. At that point, you have two choices: patch it and deal with it again in two years, or renovate it properly and get another 15 to 20 years out of the investment.
Scott Payne Custom Pools has been renovating pools across the greater Philadelphia region since 2014. We renovate pools we built and pools built by other contractors. Every renovation begins with a thorough structural and mechanical assessment so you know exactly what you're dealing with before any work begins.
Renovation Services We Offer
Replastering & Resurfacing
Standard white plaster, quartz aggregate, Pebble Tec, Pebble Sheen, and glass tile finishes. We assess the existing shell before recommending a finish so you get the right product for your pool's condition.
Tile & Coping Replacement
Waterline tile and coping replacement — travertine, bluestone, limestone, concrete, or natural stone. We match new material to your existing pool design or help you choose a completely updated look.
Equipment Upgrades
Variable-speed pump conversions, new heaters, automation systems, LED lighting upgrades, and salt chlorine generator installations. Modern equipment dramatically reduces operating costs and improves water quality.
Water Feature Additions
Adding waterfalls, sheer descents, deck jets, or bubblers during a renovation is far more cost-effective than adding them as a standalone project. The pool is already drained and the area is already disturbed.
Structural Repairs
Crack repair, gunite patching, return and skimmer replacement, and plumbing repairs. We identify and fix structural issues before applying any new finish so the renovation lasts.
Full Backyard Transformations
Complete renovation of the pool, deck, coping, water features, landscaping, and outdoor living areas. We coordinate all trades and manage the project from assessment through final walkthrough.
The Renovation Assessment Process
Before we quote any renovation work, we conduct a thorough assessment of your pool's structure, plumbing, and equipment. This isn't a sales call — it's a diagnostic. We look at the plaster condition, check for structural cracks, assess the equipment age and efficiency, and evaluate the coping and tile. We then give you a clear picture of what needs to be done, what can wait, and what the options are at each level of investment.
This approach protects you from surprises. A renovation that begins without a proper assessment often uncovers problems mid-project that drive up cost and extend timelines. We find those problems first so you can make informed decisions before work begins.
We renovate pools built by anyone. You don't need to have been our customer to work with us. If you have a pool that needs attention, we'll give you an honest assessment of what it needs and what it will cost — regardless of who built it.
Renovation vs. New Pool Build
One of the most common questions we get is whether it makes more sense to renovate an existing pool or tear it out and start fresh. The honest answer depends on the pool's structural condition, the homeowner's goals, and the budget. A pool with a sound gunite shell can be renovated to essentially new condition for significantly less than a new build. A pool with major structural issues — significant cracking, shifting, or failed plumbing — may cost more to renovate correctly than to replace.
We'll give you an honest assessment of which path makes more sense for your specific situation. Our goal is to help you make the right decision, not the most expensive one.
